There is, indeed, an unfortunate tendency to rewrite history. However, contrary to what is stated in certain popular science works, it was not the Americans who invented information warfare. President Woodrow Wilson certainly demonstrated a degree of innovation in radio communication during the First World War. But American intelligence services, still in an embryonic state between the two wars, had to overcome a significant lag compared to British creativity.
